Joint Meritorious Unit Award

Joint Task Force Pacific Haven

Citation

To accompany the award of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award to the Joint Task Force Pacific Haven. Joint Task Force Pacific Haven distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious achievement from 15 September 1996 to 30 April 1997. At the direction of the President, Joint Task Force PACIFIC HAVEN provided support for over 6,600 evacuees fleeing Iraq. The task force provided food, shelter, medical care, security, and assimilation programs, and assisted in processing asylum applications at two separate locations. The operation was superbly executed through every phase, including construction of two mosques, coordination and processing of more than 630,000 dollars in donations, and flawless performance by over 5,000 military personnel. Outstanding management of every facet of this operation was critical to resounding mission success, safe relocation of all evacuees, and full satisfaction of all objectives. By their exemplary performance of duty, the members of Joint Task Force PACIFIC HAVEN have brought great credit upon themselves, their Service, and the Department of Defense.
